Word of the week!
The word for this week is:
overweening
" oh-ver-WEE-ning
"
To describe someone as overweening is to say that they are arrogant and unduly proud. Overweening also disapprovingly describes qualities or desires, such as greed or ambition, that are seen as excessive.
It’s hard for people to believe every word in speeches by overweening politicians.
Sakshi Malik - A story to be heard
Rio Olympic bronze medallist
Sakshi Malik declared her retirement from the sport on Thursday in
protest of Sanjay Singh, a loyalist to Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh,
winning the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) election for the top position in New Delhi.
Expressing deep emotion, Sakshi Malik, adorned with tears, declared, "We fought from our heart, but if a man like Brij Bhushan, his business partner, and a close aide is elected as the president of WFI, I quit wrestling." In a poignant moment, she emphasized her commitment by placing her wrestling shoes on the table, making a dramatic and symbolic announcement of her retirement from the sport. The gesture underscored the profound impact of the election outcome on her dedication to wrestling.
Earlier this year, numerous leading male and female wrestlers staged weeks-long protests at Jantar Mantar, alleging sexual harassment by Brij Bhushan, who was then the chief of WFI. The demonstration reflected the severity of the accusations and the athletes' determination to bring attention to the issue and seek justice within the wrestling community.
