Market News

The benchmark equity indices concluded Friday's trading session on a downward note. The NSE Nifty 50 saw a decline of 33.40 points (0.17%), settling at 19,731.80, and the BSE Sensex experienced a drop of 187.75 points (0.28%) to close at 65,794.73. Across broader indices, the outcomes were mixed, with gains driven by Healthcare and FMCG stocks. However, the Bank Nifty index witnessed a decline of 577.60 points (1.31%), settling at 43,583.95.

Smallcap and Midcap stocks witnessed gains in the sectoral landscape, while Healthcare, Banking, and Financial Services stocks experienced declines. Notable performers on the NSE Nifty 50 included SBI Life Insurance, Apollo Hospitals, HDFC Life Insurance, L&T, and Tata Consumer Products as the top gainers. Conversely, State Bank Of India, Axis Bank, ONGC, BPCL, and Bajaj Finance were among the laggards. The Indian Volatility Index (India VIX) concluded with a 1.54% increase, reflecting heightened market volatility.

India - Maldives discussions.

The Maldives government has officially asked India to withdraw its military personnel from its territory, as stated in a press release from the Maldives President's office. In response, the Indian side indicated a commitment to finding a "workable solution." President Dr Mohamed Muizzu made the formal request during a meeting with India's Minister of Earth Sciences, Mr Kiren Rijiju. Notably, Mr Rijiju represented India at the inauguration of the Maldives' new leader, marking a departure from previous occasions when the prime minister was present.During the meeting, President Muizzu raised the issue of Indian military personnel stationed in the Maldives, specifically for operations related to medical evacuation and counter-drug trafficking, according to sources from the Indian government. The president reportedly recognized and appreciated the contribution of Indian helicopters and aircraft in conducting medical evacuations for Maldivian citizens in press release.Click here to read more.
