Market News
In the dynamic world of finance, the Bank Nifty index made quite a dramatic exit, shedding a hefty 311.25 points or 0.70%, ultimately settling at 44,287.95. It was a day of stark contrasts among the sectoral indices, with PSU Bank, Media, Metal, IT, and Financial Services stocks taking a tumble, while Auto, Realty, Pharma, and FMCG stocks decided it was time to shine in the spotlight, adding gains to the mix.
Adding a touch of intrigue, the Volatility index (India VIX) raised its head by 0.72%, perhaps suggesting that the market had a few more surprises up its sleeve. In the fast-paced world of the stock market, the closing notes of the week brought some sombre tones. The NSE Nifty 50 took a slight dip, down by 0.22%, as it settled at 19,751.05, while the BSE Sensex decided to bid goodbye to 125.65 points, resting at 66,282.74.
Israel - Hamas conflict.
Since the attack initiated by the Palestinian militant group Hamas on October 7, the toll has been devastating, with nearly 1,300 lives lost. Israel's response to this crisis included a stark directive, urging approximately 1.1 million residents in the northern region of the Gaza Strip to relocate within a mere 24 hours.
The United Nations chief, Antonio Guterres, has not minced words in his reaction to this development, branding Israel's ultimatum as "extremely dangerous." The situation remains highly volatile and continues to draw international concern.
Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh levelled serious allegations on Saturday, accusing Israel of committing war crimes and obstructing the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. These accusations come in the midst of Israel's sustained airstrikes on the blockaded territory, escalating the gravity of the situation.Innocent people all around the globe are being tortured and all we can do is hope and pray for these bad times to end.
Word of the week!
Feel dumb? Not anymore! The word for this week is:
circumvent
" ser-kum-VENT
"
To circumvent something is to get around it in a clever and sometimes dishonest way, or, if it's a rule or law, to avoid being stopped by it. We circumvented the technical issues by using a different computer program.
India - Israel relations.

New Delhi has sent rescue flights for Indians stranded in Israel under the codename Operation Ajay. Numerous lives have been saved, and they have been planning to send out a third flight to rescue the Indians in Israel. The recent government statements come in the wake of previous declarations of unwavering support for Israel, with no mention of Palestine. These prior statements had faced criticism from opposition politicians and civil society activists.
In his initial response to the Hamas' strike on October 7, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deep shock and promptly labelled the attack as a "terrorist" action.
On Tuesday, the Prime Minister engaged in a phone conversation with his Israeli counterpart, Benjamin Netanyahu, reiterating India's unwavering support. He emphasized, "India stands firmly with Israel and strongly and unequivocally condemns terrorism."
