Week 68

Let the games beginšŸ

Good Morning,

Welcome! I hope you have your ā€œSubah Kee Chaiā€ ready and are excited to read your weekly 10-minute digest.

As an avid Formula 1 viewer, last night's sprint race was certainly something I wasn't expecting. Oscar Piatsri, an Australian driver for Mclaren has secured a win for himself in his first year in F1! The driver is 22 years old and has managed to do something others can only dream of. The Grand Prix in Qatar will end with a race today, and we all expect Max Verstappen to take another victory.

The news this week has shown an intriguing trend, the world is undergoing major inflation and it's not long before it hits us like a rock. Sugar prices are skyrocketing, there has been a decrease in manufacturing sectors and much more. I guess all we can do is hang tight and hope for the bestšŸ¤ž.

Sikkim flash floods.

Tragedy has struck the landscapes of Sikkim, as flash floods wreaked havoc, claiming the lives of at least 53 individuals, including seven brave soldiers. The news doesn't end there; over the past three days, the Teesta riverbed in neighbouring West Bengal has yielded the remains of 27 more victims, adding to the heart-wrenching toll of this natural disaster. Seven of these souls have been identified, but the weight of this calamity hangs heavy in the air.A sense of urgency and concern grips the region as over 140 individuals remain missing, their whereabouts uncertain. The aftermath of the flash floods has left thousands displaced, their lives upended by the unforgiving forces of nature.

The Sikkim government's grim report reveals the extent of the devastation: 1,173 houses lie severely damaged, while the valiant efforts of rescuers have saved 2,413 people from the clutches of disaster.

The situation takes a more ominous turn downstream, where all bridges leading to the Teesta-V hydropower station have succumbed to the relentless surge of water or been washed away. This catastrophic event has disrupted communication and isolated North Sikkim, casting a shadow of uncertainty over the region's connectivity and well-being.

Israel - Palestine War.

The news is flooded with Israeli news, here's what happened yesterday. On an eventful Saturday, Israel declared a 'state of war' and launched airstrikes on the Gaza Strip in response to a fierce rocket attack by Palestine's Hamas militants, which they referred to as their "first strike." The skies over Israel were pierced by over 5,000 rockets, accompanied by blaring sirens across the country on what should have been a festive holiday morning.

Defence Minister Yoav Gallant emphasized that Hamas had made a "grave mistake" by initiating a war against Israel. Israel's defence forces further reported an infiltration by Hamas militants, whom they classify as terrorists. Visuals from Israel depicted the use of paragliders in the attack, with gunfire directed at passing vehicles on the roads. The situation in the region remained highly volatile.

"The Israel Defense Forces has officially declared a state of readiness for war due to extensive rocket fire into Israeli territory from Gaza, accompanied by terrorists infiltrating Israeli territory through multiple entry points," announced the military.

In response to the escalating situation, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office has confirmed that he will soon convene a meeting with security chiefs. The Israeli government has strongly asserted that Hamas will face severe consequences for its actions. The region remains on high alert as tensions continue to mount.
