Word of the week!

The word for this week is:

lionize

" LYE-uh-nyze

"

To lionize someone is to treat them as a person of great interest or importance.

While her name was not attached to her books in her lifetime (she published anonymously), Jane Austen continues two centuries hence to be lionized as one of the English language's greatest novelists.

Indians and blood pressure - a love story.

Walking down a street in India is probably the biggest test of someone's life. Resisting the urge to pounce on every street food item is not something every man can do! Here is a report on how Indians are affected by high blood sugar levels, and the dangerous side effects. In a recent report published by the World Health Organization (WHO), it was disclosed that over 180 million individuals in India are grappling with hypertension, which is a staggering 18 Crore people. However, the report also revealed a concerning statistic: only 37 per cent of these individuals are actually aware of their hypertensive condition. This highlights the pressing need for increased awareness and proactive healthcare initiatives to address this significant health concern in India. The alarming prevalence of hypertension in India carries significant implications for public health. With such a substantial number of affected individuals, the country faces a heightened risk of heart strokes. In fact, a study conducted in February 2022 reported that India has a stroke rate ranging from 108 to 172 per 100,000 people, with a one-month fatality rate ranging between 18 to 42 per cent. These statistics underscore the urgent need for improved healthcare measures and interventions to manage hypertension and reduce the associated risks of cardiovascular diseases, including strokes.

A nuclear North Korea?

In a big announcement, North Korea has now written into its official rulebook that it's a country with nuclear weapons. The leader, Kim Jong Un, made this declaration during a meeting of top officials. He said that North Korea's plan to have nuclear weapons is now a permanent law, and nobody can go against it.

Kim called this a historic moment, saying it makes their defence super strong. He also told his officials to work closely with other countries that are against the United States and the Western world's powerful strategies. Kim didn't like the teamwork between the US, South Korea, and Japan, calling it an "Asian-version NATO." This is a significant move and shows North Korea's clear stance on nuclear weapons and international relations. This year, North Korea has been really active with weapons testing, breaking its own records. Now, Kim Jong Un has promised to make even more nuclear weapons to stop what he sees as the US doing things that annoy him. There's even a report from the news agency AFP that suggests North Korea might do its first nuclear test since 2017. They've done six of those in total since 2006. This is definitely a situation that needs close attention because it could have big consequences.
