New world record!

I bet this isn't a record you'd hear of in your day-to-day life. People all around the world have been breaking records you didn't know existed! Well, this Delhi resident managed to set one of the most astonishing and out-of-the-box records out there.
, an individual who has travelled extensively to over 70 countries, made headlines when he set a remarkable Guinness World Record in 2021. As reported by the Indian Express, Manu successfully
covered all 286 metro stations
in the national capital within an impressive time of
15 hours, 22 minutes
,
and 49 seconds
. However, there was a mix-up during the certification process, and initially, the honour was mistakenly attributed to Prafull Singh, a revenue inspector with Delhi Metro. Fortunately, the mistake was rectified, and Shashank Manu officially received the well-deserved certification in April 2023, solidifying his incredible achievement.
He set the record by using a one-day tourist card on the Delhi Metro's blue line. He started at
5:00 am
and finished at
8:30 pm
, covering all the metro stations spanning 348 km.
Another world record was set ablaze by a 39-year-old French firefighter who ran the
fastest 100 metres while on fire
(that's hot). Jonathan Vero, also known as the human torch sprinted the 100-metre stretch with no oxygen. That's a breathtaking record if I ever knew one!
Word of the week!
Let's take a break from the news! The word for this week is:
lambent
"LAM-bunt"
When used literally, lambent can mean “softly bright or radiant” or “flickering.” Lambent is also often used to describe speech, writing, music, and even wine, which has a light, appealing quality.
Sitting around the campfire, we were mesmerized by the lambent flames dancing into the night.
France riots
France was engulfed in a wave of protests for the third consecutive night after a teenager was fatally shot by the police, an incident that was captured on video. More than 400 individuals were arrested across the country in connection with the protests. The RAID, France's elite police force, was deployed to several cities including Bordeaux, Lyon, Roubaix, Marseille, and Lille to help control the situation.
Confrontations between protesters and law enforcement escalated in Nanterre, a Parisian suburb where the 17-year-old Nahel was killed, and in the southern port city of Marseille. In Nanterre, amidst the chaos and burning debris, the phrase "vengeance pour Nael" was spray-painted on a wall, reflecting the desire for revenge for the slain teenager. The protests and clashes across France illustrate the deep frustration and anger felt by many citizens following the tragic death of the teenager, and they reflect the ongoing tensions between the police and certain communities in the country. The president of France, Emmanuel Macron was found partying with Elton John while France descended into chaos.
Smuggling ring!

You hear the word smuggling, what's the first thing that comes to mind? Drugs, money, gold, or even weapons. Well, this story covers none of them.
In a recent development, an individual of Indian origin named Rajinder Pal Singh has been sentenced to over three years in prison for his involvement in smuggling more than 800 Indian citizens into the United States using the ride-hailing service Uber. The US Justice Department reported that Singh, a California resident, pleaded guilty in February to charges of being a key member of a smuggling ring that facilitated the illegal entry of hundreds of Indian nationals from Canada, earning over $50,000 in the process.
Acting US Attorney Tessa M Gorman stated that Singh, aged 49, was sentenced on Tuesday for his participation in a conspiracy to transport and harbour certain aliens for profit, as well as for his involvement in a conspiracy to commit money laundering. This case highlights the extent of Singh's criminal activities and the severity of the charges he faced, leading to his prison sentence.Over the span of 4 years, Singh arranged for 600 Uber trips to smuggle the Indians into the USA.
