Market News

In the last trading session of the week, domestic indices closed on a positive note. The NSE Nifty 50 gained 46.35 points or 0.25% to reach 18,534.10, while the BSE Sensex rose by 118.57 points or 0.19% to reach 62,547.11.Among the sectoral indices, Bank Nifty witnessed a significant surge of 147.65 points or 0.34%, closing at 43,937.85. Nifty Auto experienced a gain of 0.92%, Nifty Metal jumped by 1.22%, and Nifty Realty surged by 1.42%. However, Nifty IT faced a decline of 0.40%.

On the Nifty 50 index, the top gainers were Hindalco, HeroMotocorp, Apollo Hospitals, Tata Steel, and Maruti Suzuki. Conversely, the losers on the Nifty 50 were Adani Enterprises, BPCL, HDFC Life, TCS, and Wipro.India's stock market capitalization has surpassed that of France, allowing it to regain its position as the world's fifth-largest stock market. This achievement can be attributed to the significant resurgence in the stocks of the Adani Group, which has contributed to the overall growth and value of the Indian stock market.

Odisha

A major train accident occurred in Balasore, Odisha, where at least 300 people sustained injuries. The incident took place in the evening when the Coromandel Express, travelling from Kolkata to Chennai, collided with the derailed coaches of another train. The second train was en route from Bengaluru to Kolkata. According to the Railway Ministry spokesperson, Amitabh Sharma, who spoke to NDTV, there is a possibility that many people may be trapped. The accident happened near Bahanaga Bazar station around 7:20 pm.Multiple response teams, including three NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) units, four ODRAF (Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force) units, over 20 fire rescue teams, 30 doctors, 200 police personnel, and 60 ambulances, have been mobilized to the site of the train accident.PM Narendra Modi tweeted his condolences to the families of the deceased. He mentioned his conversation with the railway minister (Ashwini Vaishnaw) and how he has taken the situation under control. The message was posted on Twitter at 9:39 pm on Friday.

Heist gone wrong!

A successful joint operation conducted by the Indian Coast Guard, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), and Customs has thwarted an attempt to smuggle 32.689 kgs of gold bars into India. The operation, initiated on Tuesday, May 30th, was prompted by specific intelligence received from the DRI about contraband smuggling from Sri Lanka to India via the sea route.

They successfully apprehended two suspicious boats involved in a smuggling attempt from Sri Lanka to India. The boats were intercepted near the Mandapam fishing harbour in Tamil Nadu's Ramanathapuram district and south of Mandapam. The first boat evaded authorities and dumped its consignment overboard before being captured, while the second boat was found with 21.269 kgs of smuggled gold and its crew was taken into custody.The Indian Coast Guard conducted a diving operation and recovered 11.6 kg of gold bars from the seabed. The seized contraband, valued at Rs. 20.20 crore or $2.5 million, and the suspects are now in the custody of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) for further legal proceedings.

The Chennai Super Kings defeated the Gujurat Titans on Tuesday after a nail-biting game to lift the IPL trophy for a record-equalling fifth time!

Ravindra Jadeja was the batsman who scored a whopping 10 runs of two balls to drive them to victory. The game was delayed for almost two days due to rain and finally concluded at 2 am on Tuesday morning. What a perfect way to end the IPL! ( not for Mumbai fans ).

Indian and Australian players get no rest as they go straight back to training for the World Test Championship Finals from Wednesday, 7th June onwards. The match will be played at the Kennington Oval in England and will test the players' test match skills. Rohit Sharma leads the Indian side against Pat Cummins, the captain of Australia. 

The match begins at 3:00 pm IST and can be watched on Disney+ Hotstar.
